Dirk Richter ist stellvertretender Leiter des Rechenzentrums der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität / Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg und in dieser Position verantwortlich für den operativen Betrieb und die System-Architektur. Schwerpunkte seiner Arbeit bilden neben einer mandantenfähigen, unternehmensweiten Virtualisierungs-Plattform vor allem aufwandsoptimierte kooperative Storage- & Backup-Lösungen. Aus einer mehrjährigen Kooperation zwischen der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität und der HBT GmbH bei der Entwicklung des Dienste- und Netzwerk-Monitoring-Werkzeugs GEONetWatch© resultiert die Verbindung zum Hamburger Berater Team, das er auf dem Gebiet der IT-Infrastrukturen in Projekten und bei der Weiterentwicklung der unternehmenseigenen IT unterstützt.

Abstract:

Die verschiedenen Virtualisierungs-Technologien setzen sich in Großunternehmen zunehmend durch. Inzwischen wird die den Trend treibende Server-Virtualisierung ergänzt und flankiert durch Storage-Virtualisierung, virtuelle Netzwerk-Komponenten und vor allem auch die Desktop-Virtualisierung. Die bekannten Vorteile der Virtualisierung – eine bessere Auslastung der Hardware führt zu geringeren Investitions-, Strom- und Klimakosten bei gleichzeitiger Verbesserung der Verfügbarkeit – gelten für mittelständische Unternehmen genauso wie für Rechenzentren. Trotzdem beträgt der Anteil derjenigen Unternehmen, die Virtualisierungs-Lösungen bereits heute produktiv einsetzen, nur ca. 20%. Der Grund für diese Zurückhaltung liegt nicht zuletzt in den Risiken einer neuen Komplexitäts-Ebene und dem relativ hohen Aufwand, der entsteht, wenn aus dem großen Angebot der diversen Anbieter kombinierte, maßgeschneiderte Lösungen zu entwickeln sind.

Vorgestellt wird eine budget-schonende Infrastruktur-Lösung für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen, die hohe Verfügbarkeits-Anforderungen adressiert aber auch Rücksicht nimmt auf begrenzte Administrations-Kapazitäten. Am Beispiel eines „typischen“ Service-Portfolios (E-Mail, File- und Print-Service, Active Directory, Web-Server, Intranet/Wiki, Branchensoftware) werden Chancen, Risiken und Kosten der einzelnen Virtualisierungsschritte ebenso erkennbar wie die Abhängigkeiten der verwendeten Komponenten (Server-Virtualisierung mit VMware ESX(i), Storage- & Backup-Konsolidierung mit Sun/Oracle Solaris10 und ZFS, standard-basierte Datennetz-Segmentierung nach IEEE 802.1q mit Cisco-Hardware). Den Abschluss bilden erste Erfahrungen mit der Desktop-Virtualisierung im KMU-Umfeld.

On behalf of the Province of Trento, the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), CREATE-NET and co-sponsors, are pleased to announce the European Forum for Innovation (EFI) 2010 to be held 23-25 June in Trento, Italy.

EFI 2010 provides a dynamic platform to hear and interact with key European leaders from public and private sectors (including government, finance, industry, academia and research) proposing substantial new approaches and practices to improve the efficiency and global impact of the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) innovation cycle in Europe.

In support, the Forum also serves as the operational launch of the EAI devoted to leveraging collective pan-European resources, expertise and tactics necessary to build, reinvigorate and capitalize ICT innovation through an open, democratic and community oriented approach.

The 1st day of the EFI agenda will feature high-level keynote presentations addressing current challenges in technology and entrepreneurial innovation in Europe. The discussion will tackle the importance for Europe’s industry, academic, private investment, research, government and scientific sectors to work collaboratively bringing about the level of innovation required to successfully compete on the world stage.

The 2nd day will respond by showing how best to unlock Europe’s true potential with EAI serving as the most important conduit reinvigorating ICT innovation through unified strategic and community “grassroots” initiatives.

For those who share the vision, the 3rd day will empower the EAI Community through special interest group working sessions representing the initial EAI portfolio of Science for Innovation, Business and Technology (SIB) Councils from which the future of Europe’s ICT innovation cycle will be shaped.

Over the last years, the European Workshop on RFID Systems and Technologies (RFID-SysTech) has become a central platform in Europe for personal networking and information exchange in the field of RFID technologies and applications. While the networking of objects for the purpose of data collection and distributed control is no longer a recent phenomenon, the sheer number of things that are networked to information systems has dramatically risen. Today, the Internet is increasingly extended to all kinds of physical assets: product components, finished products, logistic units, equipment, documents, vehicles, buildings and electronical meters as well as embedded systems of all kind. Mature industries, like the energy or automotive are in euphoric mood and accordingly, we see enormous research and technological development activity: For instance, Auto-ID technologies such as RFID are being increasingly combined with data storage capacity and sensors or other communication devices that provide real-time data such as position, temperature, pressure, vibrations etc. These special-purpose computer systems are able to sense information from the real world or perform actions upon it and are also able to communicate with other networked computer systems.

 

The resultant integration into existing business processes and IT infrastructures under the side condition of enabling an interaction between intelligent objects and business applications within and between enterprises in a generic, flexible and scalable manner is a considerable challenge. At the same time, the economic potential is promising and will also help enterprises to address completely new challenges such as sustainability: Interacting with smart devices will ensure that enterprises get correct, auditable trails for sustainability metrics. Such systems can help businesses track carbon and other environmental aspects. However, business-to-business integration solutions such as the EPCglobal network or other bilateral approaches have to be developed further in order to meet the supporting requirements.

 

The specific profile of this workshop is to examine both the technology and business aspects:

- the latest achievements in technologies and systems for smart objects

- their integration into information systems and business processes

- and their business value.

 

Scientists and practitioners from the fields of electrical engineering, computer science and information systems will find an excellent opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary discussions, set up new networks and exchange information on a professional level. EuroVis 2010 is the 12th annual Visualization Symposium jointly organized by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization and the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee.

 

Bordeaux enjoys a strong cultural background in computer science and recently experienced a burst of development involving institutional partners such as CNRS and INRIA.

 

Visualization has become an increasingly important research area due to its wide range of applications in many disciplines. EuroVis is a Eurographics and IEEE co-sponsored international visualization symposium held in Europe every year since 1999, with the objective to foster greater exchange between visualization researchers and practitioners, and to draw more researchers in Europe to enter this rapidly growing area of research. EuroVis has an expanded scope to include all areas of visualization, and a sponsorship to allow us to achieve a more wide-spread impact.

 

Papers accepted for EuroVis will be published in an issue of Computer Graphics Forum, the International Journal of the Eurographics Association, using a two-stage review process. Papers should be at most 9 pages excluding references and at most 10 pages including references.

SBIM-NPAR 2010 brings together the two great computer graphics conferences on expressive techniques with the premiere animated film festival. Each symposium has its own committee and review process, but all content is presented together so that you can see everything in one place. Annecy is a resort town in the French Alps featuring an old city built on canals around a lake with fine dining and museums. During the festival, seven theaters continuously screen the year's best commercial, indie, and student animation while live bands and the giant outdoor screen come alive at night on the beach.

„Daten - Die neue Leitwährung im digitalen Zeitalter?“, unter diesem Titel findet am 10. Juni 2010 der Jahreskongress der Initiative D21 in Hannover statt. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei der digitale Wirtschaftskreislauf, in dem häufig mit der Währung „Daten“ statt Geld bezahlt wird. Oft ist es dabei nur noch dieses Geschäftsmodell, mit dem sich viele der kreativen und innovativen Möglichkeiten des Webs finanzieren und erweitern lassen.

 

Welche Daten dabei preisgegeben werden und welchen Wert diese überhaupt für die Unternehmen haben, darüber ist sich allerdings ein Großteil der Nutzerinnen und Nutzer nicht bewusst - sie werden häufig auch unzureichend informiert. Am Ende sollte jedoch jeder selbst entscheiden können, ob und in welcher Form persönliche Daten freigegeben werden. Um dies zu erreichen, ist ein aufgeklärter und selbstbestimmter Umgang mit dem digitalen Raum unerlässlich.

 

Gemeinsam mit Teilnehmern wie Bundesinnenminister Dr. Thomas de Maizière, Google Nordeuropa-Chef Philipp Schindler oder XING-CEO Dr. Stefan Groß-Selbeck will die die Initiative D21 die Debatte um die Zukunft des Internets und seinen Nutzen für die Gesellschaft weiter voranbringen.

Maven 2 - Softwareprojekte mit Kultur - Eine Einführung in die Maven-Philosophie mitten aus dem praktischen Alltag der Softwareentwicklung.

Herr Patrick Zeising, NEUSTA GmbH, Bremen

Patrick Zeising arbeitet als Berater und Systementwickler im Java EE-Umfeld für die NEUSTA GmbH in Bremen. Schwerpunkte seiner Arbeit sind die Konzeption und Entwicklung mehrschichtiger, lose gekoppelter Client/Server-Architekturen und die Qualitätssicherung während der Softwareentwicklung. Für die NEUSTA GmbH führte er Fortbildungen zum Software-Projektmanagement mit Maven 2 durch. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt seiner Arbeit ist das Konfigurations- und Testmanagement in multi-modularen Projekten mittels Maven2, Spring und TestNG. Im März 2009 veröffentlichte er zusammen mit Michael Albrecht einen Artikel zum Thema "Multikulti - Großprojekte konfiguriert testen mit Maven 2" (JavaSPEKTRUM, SIGS-DATACOM, Ausgabe 02/2009) und er ist Co-Autor des ersten deutschsprachigen Buchs zu Maven 2 (Martin Spiller: "Maven 2. Konfigurationsmanagement mit Java", Mitp-Verlag, 2009).

Abstract:

Maven ist mehr als ein Build-Tool für Java-Projekte oder ein Stück Software. Es fördert eine Kultur der Softwareentwicklung, die von Konventionen und einheitlichen Prozessen geprägt ist. Lässt man sich auf Mavens ganzheitliche Sicht auf den Lebenszyklus von Softwareprojekten ein, bietet es konkrete Vorteile bei der Organisation der täglichen Arbeit in der Softwareentwicklung und der damit verbundenen Qualitätssicherung auf Basis des Quellcodes. Maven-Projekte werden zentral konfiguriert, sie unterscheiden sich im Aufbau untereinander kaum und sie teilen sich ihre Abhängigkeiten an zentraler Stelle. Ihre Abläufe beim Übersetzen, dem Durchführen automatisierter Tests und dem Ausliefern sind vereinheitlicht und sie lassen sich dank dieser Konventionen von allen Projektmitgliedern warten.

Im Mittelpunkt des Vortrags steht neben der Maven-Philosophie die praktische Arbeit mit Maven 2. Anhand eines Beispiels aus der Praxis zur Test- und Anwendungskonfiguration in multimodularen Projekten wird die tägliche Arbeit mit Maven 2 vorgestellt.
